INSTITUTIONAL COLLABORATION

Professional visit of students from the Technical University of Moldova, Republic of Moldova, Chisinau to the Faculty of Engineering in Hunedoara

Episode 4

The caravan of professional visits stopped on February 21, 2025 at Heidelberg Materials Chișcădaga, Deva.
The construction of the Chișcădaga cement factory began in 1972 and went into operation in 1976. Heidelberg Materials took over this factory in 2000. Over time, the dedusting equipment used in the cement production, transport and storage processes was modernized. The flue gas conditioning and dedusting system at the clinker kiln was modernized (a new gas conditioning tower, replacement of the two electrostatic precipitators, which ensure the dedusting of gases from the clinker kiln, with bag filters). The continuous monitoring system at the clinker kiln chimneys was also replaced. By replacing the electrostatic precipitators, dust emissions were reduced to 1.42 mg/Nm3, below the legal limit, which is 30 mg/Nm3.
Also, automated installations for burning alternative fuels were purchased: used tires and solid fuel prepared from sorted industrial and household waste – RDF. Through these measures, the company contributes to the conservation of non-renewable resources, especially fossil fuels, and respects the principles of sustainable development.
They are people who approach work with stubborn joy, as our host Cristina Petrescu, human resources specialist, always does.
The students from the Republic of Moldova had meaningful and delightful interactions with the passionate engineers Alex and Oti.

Anastasia…..,,Heidelberg Materials produces cement. The factory is very interesting and there are many people involved here with different specializations, but they are all engineers. I was impressed by the dimensions needed to produce something that seems, at first glance, simple – cement.”

Marius…..,,Another interesting visit was to “Heidelberg Materials Chișcădaga”, where I learned about the production of construction materials and about the social responsibility of a company.”

Maxim 1….,,The cement industry plays a role in the basic structure of the infrastructure, and the visit to Heidelberg Materials Chișcădaga gave me a clear understanding of the production processes. I appreciated the company’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and adopt alternative fuels, related to the essential aspect of reducing the ecological impact and promoting a more sustainable future.”

Nicolae….,,At Heidelberg Materials Chișcădaga, I explored the construction materials industry and was surprised by the complexity of the cement production process. The technologies used to reduce the environmental impact caught my attention, demonstrating that technical progress is essential for the sustainability of the industry. It is a much more complex industry than it seems at first glance.”

Cristian….,,At Heidelberg Materials Chișcădaga, we entered the world of construction materials. We understood how important each stage of production is, and the explanations provided helped us see beyond what seems, at first glance, just an industrial process.”

Xenia….,,This day, I visited Heidelberg Materials, where I saw how cement is manufactured. The process is much more complex than I imagined, involving gigantic equipment and modern technologies for environmental protection.”
