,,In my life I have always had a passion for technology and hardware repair, and one of the most interesting projects I have worked on was transforming an old computer into a modern PC system, capable of gaming, 3D editing and even processing for artificial intelligence. This was a laborious but rewarding process that took about 6 months.
What did I actually achieve?
I took an old office computer, originally equipped with an AMD Athlon 64 processor (1 core), 2 GB RAM, a 320 GB HDD and completely transformed it. The performance of this system increased 16 times by changing the processor to an 11th generation Intel i5 (6 cores), and the RAM was expanded to 32 GB to handle more complex applications.
Storage was improved by replacing the HDD with a 2 TB SSD, which led to significantly faster speeds in accessing files and running programs. On the graphics side, I installed an AMD RX 6400 video card, which increased graphics performance by 22 times compared to the original configuration.

I changed the motherboard to support the new hardware and installed a 400W power supply, replacing the old 220W one, which could no longer handle the components of the new configuration.
I also modified the case: I created a custom cover using a 3D printer, where I added USB 3.0 ports and additional fans for better cooling.

Another notable aspect is that I managed to optimize the system’s power consumption. Now the computer consumes only 20W in idle mode, compared to 50W before the upgrade.
Reason for the upgrade
I wanted to demonstrate that an old, seemingly unusable computer can be transformed into a modern, high-performance, and energy-efficient system. This project was both a personal challenge and a way to put my technical skills and creativity into practice.
What happened after that?
I use the “modernized” computer every day and it is now perfect for complex tasks, such as 3D editing, gaming at high resolutions in high detail, and processing for artificial intelligence. Also, the exterior appearance remains classic and modest, which adds an element of surprise when someone finds out what this system can do.
The impact of the completion on my life
Completing this project helped me become more confident in my abilities, brought me a lot of personal satisfaction, and confirmed that my passion for technology can take me far. It was an experience that motivates me to continue learning and developing.”
