Dragoș…..
,,I’m going to start this ,,funny incident”, which is not so funny, related to my first and probably last sports competition, related to a rather important period in my life.
It was the summer of 2019, during the vacation period before the beginning of the 8th grade. Most of my colleagues knew where they were going, what profile they wanted to follow, what subjects they liked to study, but I didn’t. During that period, I thought of the possibility of Mihai Viteazul National Military College. Why? Then it seemed interesting to me, being a boy, I was always attracted to discipline, respect, seriousness, organization and last but not least, the uniform, things that the military field offered. Every time I saw uniforms either on the internet or in everyday life on the street, I felt a strong feeling and imagined how I would look in that uniform. At that time, I thought that I was suitable in every way for that lifestyle, I have a leadership character, I have an analytical and logical thinking, I like order and discipline. Unfortunately, like any institution, it offers you an image to capture your attention, promising benefits and unforgettable experiences. I noticed this very late.
The adventure started by contacting a sports teacher, known from a colleague who was also preparing for the military high school. I can’t say I started out in great physical condition, even though I was outside all the time, running or playing quite a bit of basketball. It was a challenge to start training, I ran 3 km a day and covered about 5 routes specific to the sports tests for admission. This is how I improved my physical condition very quickly, I knew how to conserve my energy, regulate my breathing but also how to focus my mind on success.
The workouts made me feel much better, healthier, fitter, and more active for what I had to do at that age. I proved to myself that the ,,discouraging legends” related to the military high school and the degree of difficulty of the tests are actually a myth, I realized that any legend can be customized as long as you want and give all your strength as to become the best version of you.
Then the trial period began. I passed the psychological and medical tests with flying colors. One day before the sports test, all the candidates were accommodated in the dormitory of the military high school. And now I remember the beds, how many were in the room, what we ate, even the jokes of the older students who seemed to be trying to save us by saying ,,it’s not worth it, go to a normal high school and then follow the academy”.
The conditions offered were not great, comparing the demands that were imposed on you and the sacrifices you had to make. Most important to me was the loss of a free and carefree period of my life. Gradually, during the stay, I realized that this place is not for me, but I tried to lie to myself, telling myself that surely it can’t be that bad. I tried my best at the sports test, I got a pretty good result considering that I had little time to prepare.
But, this is where my strength and desire to continue ended. I didn’t prepare at all for the final test, the one written in mathematics and the Romanian language.
I tend to think that this was a very important period in my life, I realized what I can do, what I can’t do, I realized what my qualities are and what lifestyle I can follow. During the training, I understood very well the discipline of the sport, but also its advantages. I could say it was my peak in terms of physical condition during that time.
As for future plans, I want to improve my physical condition, I know very well the importance of sports in everyday life, this is in contradiction with the lifestyle I have adopted in recent years.”
